Binh Tay Market Saigon (also known as Cho Lon Moi or “New Big” Market) was sponsored & built by Mr. Quach Dam (also known as Thong Hiep), a Chinese from Trieu Chau region in China, in 1928 and then donated to the city government at that time. The market was put into operation in 1930 and is now one of the largest markets in Ho Chi Minh City.

The main entrance to this market is located at No.57A Thap Muoi Street, Ward 2, District 6, Ho Chi Minh City. It covers an area of ​​25,000 m2 situated among 4 streets including Thap Muoi Street - Le Tan Ke Street - Phan Van Khoe Street - Tran Binh Street.

II - Architecture of Binh Tay Market Saigon

The market has Asian-style architecture but is based on French techniques. Looking from above, the market looks outstanding with mossy red yin and yang tiles and walls painted in nostalgic yellow. The main gate of the market is located on Thap Muoi Street, designed in the form of a tower, similar to the architecture of Vietnamese temples. The tower has 4 sides, each side is fitted with a large clock, similar to Ben Thanh Market

The front of the tower has a blue crockery bas-relief, inlaid with "two dragons adorning a precious stone". On the roof corner and on the top of the tower are decorated with embossed dragons. At the 4 corners of the market are 4 small huts with curved roofs in the style of oriental pagodas. One of the most unique features of this market is a spacious and airy courtyard with an altar and statue of Mr. Quach Dam - the man who built the market, in the middle of the market. Around there is a lotus pond, a statue of a unicorn, a dragon spraying water, and a few stone chairs for guests to rest.
