EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE HANOI PRESIDENTIAL PALACE



The Hanoi Presidential Palace is one of the most famous historical sites in Hanoi where the president Ho Chi Minh lived and worked from December 19, 1954 to September 2, 1969. I - Where is the Presidential Palace Hanoi located?

Located at 2 Hung Vuong street, Ngoc Hoi ward, Ba Dinh district, this palace is a part of the Ho Chi Minh Complex (Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ba Dinh Square, Uncle Ho’s Split House,...). About 2.8km from Hanoi's Old Quarter, you can catch a bus or ride a motorbike to here

By bus

You go to Hoan Kiem Lake parking lot and choose one of the 2 following bus routes with the fare of 7,000 VND/way ($0.3):

- Bus No.14: Get off at 192A Quan Thanh street, 600m from the Ho Chi Minh Presidential Palace

- Bus No.09A: Get off at 18A Le Hong Phong street, 650m from the palace.

By motorbike

Note that the transportation in Hanoi is sometimes extremely crazy. You can park your motorbike at the surrounding parking lots (Ong Ich Khiem street or Ngoc Ha street) with fares from 5,000 - 10,000 VND/motorbike ($0.22 - 0.43).

II - How impressive is the architecture of the Hanoi Presidential Palace?

From far away, the palace looks so attractive with eye-catching yellow color and the Renaissance style. It was designed by a German architect - Auguste Henri Vildieu and was built from 1900 to 1906. There are more than 30 rooms decorated in different styles in this palace.

During the French Colonial Era, this building was called the Governor-General of Indochina and had 29 generations of Governor-General who lived and worked here since the building was completed until 19/08/1945. However, it was not until October 1954 when the second resistance against French colonialism was successful and the Hanoi capital was liberated that this building was officially owned by Vietnam with the name of the Presidential Palace.

III - What to do when visiting the Hanoi Presidential Palace?

This palace is currently the workplace of the Vietnamese President as well as the place where important activities of the Party and the State of Vietnam take place. Therefore, direct visiting inside the palace is not allowed. You can stand from the outside admiring the architecture of the palace.

This is the place to keep documents and artifacts about President Ho Chi Minh.

This is currently the place to keep the body of the President Ho Chi Minh.

Ba Dinh Square located in front of Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and on the right of the Presidential Palace, Hanoi, is the place where Uncle Ho read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945.

House No.54

Uncle Ho used to live and work at House No.54 from 1954 to 1958. A small garage  next to the house is now a place to display cars of Uncle Ho

This is the place where President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked. The stilt house located behind the Presidential Palace in Hanoi is designed based on the stilt houses of the Northwestern people. Everything in the house is mostly intact and carefully preserved.

One Pillar Pagoda

This is a pagoda with a unique architecture in Vietnam. Having a unique design of being built on a stone pillar located in the middle of a small lotus pond, the pagoda bears a resemblance to a lotus flower.
